Following the feeling before you understand it 🌙

What is your soul yearning for right now?

If you looked at my WhatsApp right now, you’d find it filled with photos of weeds, holes, roses, and climbing plants.

Call it perimenopause. Call it a midlife awakening. Call it exhaustion after a big season of creating. But the other night I found myself wide awake at 3am with this deep frustration bubbling up from within me.

All I wanted to do was plant things in the garden.

I need roses, I kept saying to my half-asleep husband. I need to plant flowers. I need beauty. I NEED to put my hands in the earth.

Bless him, after a slightly heated response, the next morning an email landed in my inbox with a voucher for a rose from David Austin Roses, my favourite rose nursery.

And that was it.

A week later I have a medicinal herb garden, an old bathtub filled with vegetables, a Great Mother garden altar, and by the end of this week my very first rose circle garden will be complete. More pics to come!

But it’s not really about the garden.

It’s about what happens when we follow the call before we fully understand it.

Something shifts.

With my hands in the soil, parts of me that hadn’t been able to settle finally started integrating. Digging holes and pulling roots from the earth, I found myself receiving ideas, insights, and earth rituals for navigating these intense times we’re living through which I’ll be sharing inside The Sanctuary soon.

The soul speaks in strange ways sometimes.

Not always through logic or plans, but through longing. Through instinct. Through the things we suddenly cannot ignore.

And following that call is the heart of the way of the mystic.

I recently shared a live talk on YouTube about exactly this: learning to live the question and trust the path before you fully understand it. You can watch it here.

And my invitation for you this week is this:

What is your soul yearning for right now?

Not your mind.  Not your fear. Not the part of you trying to work out the entire roadmap.

Just the next step.

Maybe it’s spending the full day in bed.
Maybe it’s frolicking in your garden in the middle of the night.
Maybe it’s getting some chalk and drawing on your driveway.
Maybe it’s getting dirt under your nails.

It doesn’t have to make sense – in fact it is often most powerful if it does not. But the dots always join in the end.

And if you’re longing for a space where you can follow the urges of your soul in community, we’re all about that in The Sanctuary.

Love,

Rebecca xoxo
